The project was an extension of the existing scheme at Edward Moundford Road, behind the Health Centre.
The contract was won in competitive tendering. Before the scheme commenced it was upgraded to “Ecohome Excellent”; this was the first time 'excellent' had been achieved on a rural site.
authority made available additional funding to install storm water harvesting which was recycled to serve the w.c.’s, washing machines and external taps.
The properties had the benefit of thermal heating by ground source heat pumps served from individual 90m deep boreholes.
The construction was timber frame with significantly enhanced insulation values and sound reduction across party walls. Great care was taken in the selection of
materials to satisfy the Green Code of Sustainability.
The scheme was completed on time with no variations and achieved an Excellent EcoHomes assessment. The success of this initial scheme leads onto
several other projects with Hastoe Housing Association, many of which have been negotiated.
The schemes include Feltwell, Burwell, Langham, Sedgeford, Bressingham, Saham Toney and Great Moulton.
